Associate/Children’s Pastor

Tim Roten

Hello and thank you for visiting the Greater Vision Baptist Church website. I am Pastor Tim and I have the distinct honor of being the Associate and Children’s Pastor. I have attended the church along with my wife Sara since 2000. We have been blessed to bring up our two wonderful boys Seth and Lucas in this loving church. We have one beautiful daughter who is running around Heaven healed from her earthly conditions. (I cannot wait to see her again one day!) We also have a spoiled rotten Golden Doodle named Chloe.

What do I do when I’m not being a Pastor? I am the Director of the McCreary Cancer Center which is a UNC Cancer Center located in Lenoir, North Carolina. God has blessed me to care for Oncology patients for almost 30 years. It’s so much more than a career, it’s a big part of who God made me! I have never regretted for one day the decision to go into Oncology!

What do I do for fun? Coffee and more coffee! I love coffee from my morning cup of black to my sweet White Chocolate Mochas in the evenings! I’m happy to grab a cup with you anytime! I also enjoy cooking. My grandma instilled in me a love for all things cooking. From cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, cooking and eating great food, I love it all. Being outside also brings be great joy. Our family loves biking, kayaking, hiking, swimming and just about all things outside. I enjoy watching my boys play soccer, baseball and basketball.

What you should know about me spiritually. I prayed and asked Jesus to save me when I was in Middle School. I cannot ever remember a time when I did not feel His presence in my life. That is why my ultimate goal is to help everyone understand that God wrote John 3:16 just for them. “For God loved YOU so much that He gave His only Son. God gave His Son so that if YOU believe in Him YOU will not be lost, but have eternal life!” When God sent His Son Jesus to die on a cross He was looking at YOU and I. What amazing love he extended to each of us!

So, what is my teaching style like? I am laid back and allow the children to come to the Lord in His timing. I do not try to force them into making professions of faith that they are not ready to make. Instead, I take every opportunity to teach them the word of God as it is recorded in the Bible. We do not water down God’s message but instead put it in words that they can understand. It is so amazing to watch God work in their lives as they grow in their relationship with God.

What is a song that describes me? Casting Crowns has a popular song titled “Nobody” that I believe sums me up pretty well. “I’m just a nobody, Trying to tell everybody, All about Somebody who saved my soul!” As a Children’s Pastor 3 John 1:4 speaks to my heart. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” You have my promise that I will always help “our children” to learn to walk in the Truth of God!

Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Tim
